A true connection is
born out of trust

Where did the motivation go?

The freedom to do things your way, learning and succeeding, and the feeling of belonging to a group all serve to stoke the fire of intrinsic motivation, which is the most crucial element in the success of both individual people and companies.

Intrinsic motivation is productive on many levels. Besides being a major factor in financial success, intrinsic motivation gives people energy and the ability to care about other people and get excited and engaged in the matters at hand.

Meaning and true success are born when good deeds are performed together with others. Successful companies are able to align people’s intrinsic motivation with the company’s goals.

SoulTeam helps create true leadership, functional teams and happy relationships. SoulTeam offers expertise spanning across numerous new areas of human growth and development. SoulTeam is unique. It is visions and methods that are only made possible by fusing together different worlds.

Our course and training programmes combine robust scientific research, managing intrinsic motivation, mental growth and ancient horsemanship skills. Working with horses provides a very real and impressive way to study what good leadership can entail, for example. Doing, experimenting and understanding are the path to long-lasting change.

Description of the Training Process

  • Initial state

The goal crystallises. Challenges and hopes become concrete.

  • Training

Solutions are discovered by trying, doing and experimenting.

  • Follow up

Commitment is reinforced. Intrinsic motivation is deepened.

  • Benefits

    Visible changes carry genuine significance.

  • Final Evaluation

Celebrating success. Defining the next goals.

Initial Stage

The training begins with the clarification of future prospects and the hopes for change. We delve into your development strategies and the state of your staff’s well-being. You set goals for yourselves that will take you towards the future you are aiming for. We value a personal and experience-based approach.

Training

In a world of technology and electronic communication, we offer something completely different. Our approach combines robust scientific research and practical wisdom. The training SoulTeam provides is a mix of exercises and observations that involve both humans and horses. In effect, you will create an environment for success, improve intrinsic motivation and instil good ideas into your everyday operations. The horses challenge and help you realise the desired and needed changes. Solutions are discovered by doing and experimenting.

When working between us humans, we focus on how everyday operations at the workplace could be conducted in a different way to reinforce uplift and work engagement. You are already aware of the progress you have made and have a better understanding of each other’s strengths and what things already work. We help you find the solutions and methods that will take you into the desired direction and boost well-being as well as productive excitement.

With the horses there is a shift from talking and analysing to living, experiencing and doing. You will practise communication in an entirely new kind of setting with new methods that highlight how significant your entire being is in interaction. The horses will instantly make the scope and depth of your body language visible. When interacting with horses you always need to be clear in order to be understood, and this extends to the motions and messages of the body as well. Working as a team in a situation you have never encountered before is a great way of learning the significance of presence and the ability to acknowledge and listen to others. The readiness to pose questions and propose answers and the strength to withstand external pressure are increased.

”Doing what works” becomes instantly apparent whether we are talking about a defined goal, success in general, novel solutions or the timing or nature of feedback. The horses challenge and help you realise the desired and needed changes. Solutions are discovered by doing and experimenting. Rational analysis is not always enough, which is why we also work by doing. We help you change and you will have concrete methods to take back with you.

Follow Up

An important part of the training is allowing the changes to take root, ensuring you stay on the right course and fully recognising the achieved progress, and the benefits and positive multiplier effects that come with it. Following up on the progress reinforces commitment to the changes and helps you react to possible setbacks in a sensible way. Positive reinforcement, sharing praise and interaction that supports intrinsic motivation are essential building blocks of lasting change.

Benefits

You learn how to encourage and help each other better.
You recognise your part in systems intelligence.*
You dare to share the right things and work together for a common goal even better than before.
You know how to manage yourselves better.
Your ability to withstand external pressure has developed.
You are able to interpret non-verbal communication, including microexpressions and body language.
You are acquainted with all of your emotions and are able to use them as a source of information.
You learn how to create a shared uplift.
You have the courage to embark on changes and make balancing changes in your everyday lives.
You improve your ability to see and listen and pose questions and provide answers.

Final Evaluation

The final evaluation crystallises the successes and defines the next goals to aspire to. Celebrating success is an important part in constructing a sustainable and excited professional community.

Robust Scientific Background

SoulTeam’s work is supported by solid scientific evidence. The theoretical assumption behind our practical work is that training with the help of horses yields significant and methodical reinforcement to developing the bodily and emotional sensibilities required in human communication.

The health and functionality of interaction relationships is highlighted in the professional environment. Fulfilling the basic needs of people within the organisation, their autonomy, competence and sense of relatedness, is one of the most important building blocks of intrinsic motivation. A deeper understanding of humanity helps one face the practical challenges of professional life.

Reinforcing multilayered intelligence forms the basis of the fruitful work we do.

  • Body Intelligence

A free body breathes, feels and expresses itself. Body intelligence is awareness of one's body and the ability to manage, energise and calm the body with breathing and bioenergetics.

  • Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognise and accept all emotions as part of the richness of human life. An emotionally intelligent person uses the information provided by emotions constructively, tactfully and freely.

  • Social Intelligence

Social intelligence is the ability to evaluate social situations and engage in wise and encouraging interaction. A socially intelligent person respects everyone and knows that everyone has something to contribute.

  • Systems Intelligence

Systems intelligence combines human sensitivity and active doing. The whole shapes the person and the person, for their part, shapes the whole – often intuitively, instinctively and subconsciously.

Henriika Maikku’s doctoral dissertation for Aalto University on the efficiency of horse-assisted leadership and corporate training applies systems intelligence, positive psychology, neuropsychology, interaction research, solution-focused therapy and psychophysical therapy. The dissertation is multidisciplinary and extends to the fields of philosophy, management research and occupational psychology.

Why Horses

The horse brings a unique dimension to the training and gives us the opportunity to discover the ancient abilities of seeing, feeling and interpreting that hide inside all of us. As a species, the survival of the horse is based on living in the present, making acute observations and reacting immediately to changes in the environment. The horse is very good at reading body language and energy, so with the horse there is a shift from talking and analysing to living, experiencing and doing.

Working with the horses is based on EKD horsemanship, a method developed by Esa Korhonen. EKD horsemanship is concerned with both human and equine well-being and entails gradually deepening horsemanship skills on the ground, on horseback and in the mind. In addition to SoulTeam’s corporate training, Esa also organises courses that focus solely on horsemanship.

No prior experience with horses is required. It is enough to have a desire to grow mentally and train in a new way. Even if you are an experienced equine enthusiast, our training can deepen your skills and give you new perspectives.

Testimonias

Malla Hintsala

”Theory and working with horses alternated in a balanced manner in the training we underwent with our management group. Working with the horses made me see the ways in which I interact with others. As a partner in interaction, the horse reacts readily and mercilessly to what I do and how I do it. I got to experience my own strengths and my blind spot became visible (one of them at least). I believe that the well-rounded experience I had, which included failing and being allowed to try again, and succeeding, will help me retain what I learned for longer than I would after any regular interaction training held in an office somewhere.”

Malla Hintsala, HR, Pharmia Oy

Urs Lüscher

”People who are excited and intrinsically motivated are much more likely to experience success. This brings new possibilities to management where the focus is shifted more from controlling the progress of things to creating the conditions required for success. This requires new skills from both the managers and the managed.

SoulTeam’s horse-assisted leadership training opens doors to applying systems intelligence and fruitful human-oriented co-operation directly into practice. The training offers direct benefits to developing the work community towards new successes. This training has that secret ingredient that makes the dish so tasty, as long as it is prepared with care.”

Urs Lüscher, johtamisen valmentaja, tj, UCLE Oy

Sampo Manninen

”When I participated in SoulTeam’s training, my extensive entrepreneurial experience was reflected on the leadership methods revealed by the horse-assisted training to a staggering degree. It also led to exceptional insights on how the behaviour of the horse could be compared to the behaviour of an organisation or an individual. The training added new management methods to my repertoire that I will be applying in my work. I also see exceptional potential in this method for developing multicultural organisations and promoting a new leadership model.”

”When leadership drives another person to grow, succeed and give the best version of themselves. I wholeheartedly recommend Henriika and Esa’s training course to everyone. Not only for managing others, but for managing yourself. What I learned during the course will stay with me for a long time. An absolutely stunning experience. Warm thanks to you!”

Esa is a man of many parts. He is a chef and a teacher, a body therapist and a horsemanship trainer. He has 28 years of entrepreneurial experience under his belt. With horses he has developed the Esa Korhonen Dimitroff method (EKD), which aims to help people reach a ”zero state” from where the healing interaction with horses may begin. Only after this state is reached do the different techniques gain significance.

Strengths of horses include sensitivity, making the hidden visible and giving clear signals and instant and truthful feedback. They work as part of group training and also as part of psychotherapy and work supervision if so desired. With horses, the issues at hand are transformed from words to lived experiences and actions, which expand the insights and deepen the learning. They teach strength, the presence of greatness in everyday life, tranquillity in this moment and leadership that stems from the heart. If you wish to work with horses, contact Henriika.

How to Achieve Results

Solutions are discovered by doing and experimenting. Rational analysis is not always enough. We work with thoughts, emotions and the body. Reinforcing multilayered intelligence forms the basis of the fruitful work we do.

Body intelligence is awareness of one’s body and the ability to manage, energise and calm the body with breathing and bioenergetics. A free body breathes, feels and expresses itself. Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognise and accept all emotions as part of the richness of human life. An emotionally intelligent person uses the information provided by emotions constructively, tactfully and freely. Social intelligence is the ability to evaluate social situations and engage in wise and encouraging interaction. A socially intelligent person respects everyone and knows that everyone has something to contribute. Systems intelligence is a constructive force that combines human sensitivity and active doing. The whole shapes the person and the person, for their part, shapes the whole – often intuitively, instinctively and subconsciously.

Our approach is rooted in practical wisdom with a solid scientific foundation. The training consists of a mix of exercises and observations that involve both humans and horses. Each training day focuses on a specific theme. Several horses are involved in the training and their different personalities offer a rich reflective surface. Just as those of different people do.

* Systems intelligence combines human sensitivity with engineering thinking, which grabs onto the world in order to change it. A person with high systems intelligence is able to function sensibly within complex system structures. The system shapes the person and the person, for their part, shapes the system – often intuitively, instinctively and subconsciously – and it is essential to understand how this change comes about.

Inspiration Workshops

Managing Oneself and the Magical Uplift

Taking care of and managing one’s own life is the foundation of leadership. We inevitably affect each other and each other’s lives on a daily basis. Each encounter is significant. At its core, leadership is influence, and true leadership may be found in unexpected places and take surprising forms between people. Leadership is the constant and mundane opportunity to be there for somebody else. It is the active desire to see the good in the other person and in oneself. There are as many realms of experience in the world as there are people, and these realms are changed in tiny moments. Therefore, true leadership is available to us all regardless of station, age, education, location or time. True leadership emanates as an inner light, a presence and state of being that guides our actions and deeds.

Intrinsic Motivation

According to the self-determination theory developed by Edward Deci and Richard Ryan, humans have three basic psychological needs: autonomy, competence and relatedness. Fulfilling these needs is one of the most important building blocks of a meaningful life. The freedom to do things your way, learning and succeeding and the feeling of belonging to a group and being safe all serve to stoke the fire of intrinsic motivation, which is the most crucial element in the success of individuals and companies both.

A liberated person is connected to their source and runs on their own fuel. Intrinsic motivation is productive on many levels. Besides being a major factor in financial success, intrinsic motivation gives people energy and the ability to care about other people and get excited and engaged in the matters at hand.

The Status of Fear

Fear is one of the strongest emotions and it plays a surprisingly large role in everyday behaviour and major life choices. Everyone should at one point stop and think about how and why their major life choices were made and how they could be redirected, if necessary. In the best case scenario, excitement, intrinsic motivation and a true connection to others are guiding the choices instead of fear.

In its most functional form, fear is a useful alarm that alerts you to possible dangers. It allows us to respond quickly to real danger and ensures the survival of the body. Fear is a misunderstood emotion. It has a clear and important function and at its best it allows us to improve our performance and helps us navigate more directly into the desired direction. However, an emergency is not supposed to last for long. Often the fear stays switched on and we carry inside us a silent, smouldering tension that flares up quickly at the right cues. Indeed, chronic tension is the most significant factor in inducing stress. Vestigial fear turns into anxiety. Body and breathing work are central when relieving unnecessary, chronic and anxiety-based fear.

Intuition

Intuition is one of humanity’s most important resources. The Harvard School of Economics and Europe’s leading business school INSEAD have defined meditation and intuition to be two of the most important tools of the new millennium.

Intuition is a state of seeing that is not based on technique or method. The rational mind traverses a journey whereas intuition leaps directly onto knowledge that did not exist before. It is the ability to distil quiet, definite information from the chaos of thoughts, emotions and reasoning. Each person experiences intuition in their own way and can develop their ability to harness it. Intuition can be a feeling that tells you what must be done, even if you do not yet know why. It can be the voice of the heart, a sensation in the pit of your stomach or tingling all over your body. How does intuition speak to you?

From Performing to Permitting Experimentation

Creativity and flow are only possible when one has a licence to fail. What would happen if we stopped performing compulsively? What if we gave ourselves and others the space to experiment, fail and succeed?

Knowledge of Emotions

Humans are feeling beings to their core. We feel something every second. Our body is made to feel. The quality of our lives is mainly determined by what kind of emotions we feel. Emotions are present in every aspect of life – our close relationships, work, hobbies and our relationship with ourselves. Emotions have a direct connection to both bodily and mental well-being, and each emotion has its own function.

We have learned to suppress our emotions. Sometimes emotions become so terrifying that we do everything in our power to suppress or avoid them. However, all emotions, including the unpleasant ones, are an important part of being human.

Psychological security is closely related to the emotional climate of a community. At its best, psychological security gives everyone the courage to express their thoughts and emotions without fear of negative repercussions. At the same time, psychological security also means establishing safe and shared borders on how emotions are to be expressed.

My Kind of Life

Happy people have certain things in common: they do things that they are naturally good at, things that they enjoy doing, and they have significant goals and close relationships in their lives. How do you balance the things that really matter in your life?

Lovely, Terrible Relationships

The lovely and terrible relationships we cultivate are the foundation of life. Humans crave the opportunity to feel close to someone, to share and to feel secure near other people. On the other hand, we also have our limits and the need to stand on our own. Relationships are in a constant flux between these two experiences. When and where do you feel connected to other people, animals or nature at this point in your life? When have you really felt that you are genuinely cared about? How have you demonstrated your own caring to others lately? What is the natural way for you to show that you care?

Genuinely Happy

Every person can be happy. Each and every one of us. We can all be liberated and become broader, more multidimensional and free. And it does not have to be difficult or taxing. I get to see time and time again how the change occurs faster and lighter than one dares to dream in the beginning. Happiness is not reached by analysis. It is arrived at by living, by giving yourself the permission to sense, to feel and to throw yourself into something new.

Happiness does not mean excluding painful emotions or being constantly positive. Happiness is a journey towards greater compassion, human warmth and the courage to do significant things and be kind to others.
